Sharing a mouse and keyboard across multiple computers

I have a few different machines on my desk. Currently I have a MacBook Pro with an external display and a Shuttle running Ubuntu. The screens are side by side on the desktop and a constant frustration was the fact that they didn’t share mouse and keyboard. I was continually using the wrong keyboard or the wrong mouse, and having to swap just kills your flow.

So I was happy to find Synergy:

Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. It’s intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).

It uses TCP/IP to share mouse and keyboard across multiple machines - and works like a charm.
